1983 Mercedes-Benz W123 300D review from North America
"The best in the world"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Air conditioner failure, found out it was the compressor coil.
Two years ago, the starter motor failed.
General comments?
I bought my first Mercedes in 1994. This was a 1972 220 diesel. The most reliable car I have ever owned.
In the year 2000, I sold the 220 and bought a 300d turbodiesel, which I still own. This car is very relaible and fast. In four years, I had to replace the starter motor and the air conditioning compressor.
I was rear ended in an accident where my car had suffered a frame damage from the rear. I still drive it.
I have looked for another 300d turbo diesel to buy - I could not find one. I ended up buying a 300sd turbo diesel with 265000 miles on it. Very clean leather interior .
