The Transmission Device Is Not In A Very Good Shape, but I Like It, I Will Repair It After I Finnish My Exams.
This Car Is The Most Powerful Car In My Eyes, Its Is So Heavy, Very Comfortable, Easy To Repair, But Id "Drinks" Fuel, Its Good For Heavy Duty, I Really Love It.
If a 2.0 is "the most powerful car" you must have been riding a bicycle before!
No - Walking! And that mileage, 985,620 Km, or about 612,000
miles? YEAH!!! SURE!!!
All the W123 engines seem capable of intergalactic mileages so this blokes figures could be right, that might explain the fuel consumption and performance.
My 230 petrol has done over 232 thousand miles and sounds great - its the 5 speed box that sounds nasty.
My dad has w123 (1981) 2.3 liter petrol engine, and there is about 420 000 km on the clock. Without engine rebuild!
I heard that one taxi driver did over one million kilometers with 200d engine...
Even better... in 2004 in athens a taxi driver was given by the prestigious authority of merck a 220cdi;why?because his old w123120 200diesel had reached 4 million 700 000 kilometers!
Now that's a car!!!and yes it is powerful!!!it is not fast... do not make a mistake, power is not equal to speed!it has got a 14.8 torque power, it is quite powerful!!!of course one cannot compare it with some w126"500s",but this were built I mean the w123 to last...
The above said is true, but the taxi driver used 3 or 4 engines... one was in use while there were at least two on stock. All engines had major revisions.
I think the engines are very durable indeed, but the
4 million km is not entirely correct.
I have to correct the information provided by the previous commentator concerning the greek taxi driver: The details about the mileage are true. The car can now be visited at the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart (Germany), but Daimler Chrysler shamefully didn't honor this by providing a new car. Instead, the cab driver bought a Peugeot, as the price for a new Mercedes is way too high.
Well, where I come from, in the Pacific Northwest, most of the w123's have more than 500,000 US miles on them- there are several which have broken the 8 and 9 hundred thousand mile marks. I know there will be nay-sayers, but those who actually have the pleasure of owning one of the 5 cylinder diesels will know what I say is the truth. My Grandfather took his gas 280se from the 70's to over 700,000 miles, and is currently working on his gas 190e, which has in the neighborhood of 450,000 miles behind it- if those gas Mercedes could and can make it to those marks on one engine, the w123 diesels will all be puttering happily around well after we're all dead!
As to the Greek Taxi driver, I know for a fact that his car was actually a w114/5 series, the car to which the w123 is scion to. Daimler-Chrysler did indeed honer him with a new car- the previous post is false. He bought a Peugeot for daily use as he thought the Benz just a little too nice for every day beating as a taxi.
Oh, and one more point. I am sure the poster called his car " the most powerful" as an overall statement- the mileage is a testament to that fact.
Dear Friends
I always wanted a Mercedes 123 230TE and just found one...but 5500euros? OK. the car looks like new though it's a 1982 model, OK.its solid and reliable, but ain't that too much? In UK. these cars fetch 1000pounds at the most. Why should Greeks pay 3500pounds / We are poorer than the British you know. I would like to hear prices from other countries. Thanks.
Where are you from that it costs so much? These cars are way cheaper, I am currently looking at one for about 2000 dollars and it is probably in like new condition. I`m from Slovenia, our used car prices dropped a little after joining the European Union, but not drastically.
I am from Greece dear friend and during my previous comment and today,I checked the prices through adds in newspapers in Greece and show that prices start from 2000 euros for very bad speciments-mod.1978- to 6000 euros for cars in mint condition-mod1985-.But the 230TE station wagon, believe it or not, is a very rare car in Greece. In Athens there must be around 10 at the most. I have decided to pay no more than 4500 euros for a mint 230TE, but still feel like a fool. Regards from Greece-Harris.
Agree to Harris from Greece, in Indonesia this W123 price from US$ 2500-10000. It will have price sky-high if it's station wagon & coupe, as it's very rare in Indonesia. For salon, an excellent condition can cost up to US$ 7000. This car sure has its price. For me, I keep my W123 for a weekend ride only.
Well,Harris again from Greece. Yes I bought the car,the W123 230TE I mean for which I wrote on review 12. I payed 5500 euros! but then again I sold my VW vanagon model 1981 for 4500 euros. This is Greece dear friends. The car is in a super mint condition meaning : no rust at all, no even a small chip on paint, electric windows, air condition auto door locking, electric mirrors, power steering, self leveling suspension works fine, three point seat belts everywhere including the two children seats on the back. Now I am planning a small journey to see how it rides and I will write again on my return.
The car has the following number : WDB 123 283 10 019176 and I wonder if anyone can help me "read" it properly. I can't find the exact date of production.
Thanks,Harris.
Speak to a Mercedes dealer; they keep details of pretty much all their cars on file. I recently asked a dealer about a 1983 W123 280se and he provided with parts and paint the next day! He also could tell me everything that I asked about the car.
The dealer I spoke to also happened to mention that mine with 145,000 miles on the clock was a very, very low mileage example!
