1987 Mercedes-Benz W124 300TD review from North America

On purchase the trap oxidizer was still present, MBZ replaced the complete exhaust. I imported the car to canada, had my mechanic go over it to certify, there was a leak at the manifold which was the most expensive to repair, some rear suspension parts, steering dampener, new fluids, brake pads and was ready to go. I had a very fast 850R turbo with upgraded suspension and engine,was looking to slow down after some problems with the local constabulary. This was the perfect car, feels like a tank, I love the sound of the engine, (no hood pad present),gets decent mileage, the seats cannot compare to volvo, they have the best comfort I have ever experienced. I cannot wear my wallet in this car!I researched the car and found that the second previous owner was a MBZ mechanic who rebuilt top end after overheating. All cooling system replaced, he wished now he had kept the car. Only problem was the wife of last owner who was the driver could not deal with the A/C performance, apparantly she was hot stuff and could not be cooled of adequately. The engine was rebuilt at 149000, I will be changing the oil every 3000 and hope to keep it for a long time.

Feels like a tank, get great mileage, eats up the highway, soft and cushy suspension. Seats are not that comfortable, cruise control doesn't work. I intend to convert to vegetable oil in the spring, using Elsbett system.
