There's nothing wrong with the car, it's AMAZING!!!
I have had the 2000 Cougar for 9 years and it has almost 167 thousand miles on it, and runs great. You just have to keep up with it, like oil changes and stuff.
I drive it an hour to and from work everyday, and it never gives me an issue other than it never wants to stop running.
If you want a car that responds when you turn it on, then buy a Cougar. I HAVE NEVER HAD AN ISSUE AT ALL. YOU JUST NEED TO KEEP UP WITH IT.
It's a sports car, and just like the Lamborghini, Corvette, Viper or any other sports car, THEY CAN BE A MONEY PIT. You just have to live with it, not against it. ALL SPORTS CARS ARE SENSITIVE and need MUCH ATTENTION!!!
"It's a sports car, and just like the Lamborghini, Corvette, Viper"
A sports car?
Just like the Lamborghini, Corvette, Viper?
You are talking about a Mercury Cougar aren't you?
Seems like the only reviewers who refer to their car as a "sports car" are the ones who own a car that is NOT a sports car -- like the Cougar.
The comparison to the Corvette, Viper, etc is just hyperbole, seen all too often in these reviews.
I'm glad that's been cleared up - I was just about to go to the nearest Exotic Car Dealership and ask to test drive a Mercury Cougar, amongst the Ferraris, Lamborghinis and Maseratis.
Not all "sports cars" are that "sensitive", look at the Honda Preludes and Acura Integras for instance.. those are truly sporty cars with rock-solid reliability for a fraction of the cost to keep the Cougar roadworthy. But a real sports car to me (without paying over 100,000 dollars like the cars these other guys are talking about) would be a mid to late 90's Acura NSX, Toyota Supra, or Mazda RX-7. Good luck with your Cougar though..
I'm old school - a traditional sports car had 2 seats and a most had a rag top - MG's, Triumphs, Porsche Speedsters etc.
I don't consider a Cougar (or a Toyota Supra for that matter) a "sports car". The Cougar isn't even a real sporty car, the Supra is more of a Sports GT than a "sports car".
Sports car? You know it's a Ford Contour with a different body right?. I've owned a Contour for 9 years -- it's the same car. They share a chassis, engines, and transmissions. It's not a sports car. It's a Ford Contour/Mercury Mystique/Ford Mondeo with two doors. FYI: I love these vehicles and I'm glad you like yours as well, but it's simply not a sports car.
