1983 Mercury Cougar review from North America

All right.

First I had to paint the thing. I just couldn't take the baby blue exterior. There was a bit of rust on it to begin with though, it was apparently winter driven so that's what I expected.

After the paint (black with clear coat) and about 9 months later the body filler is starting to crack and peel, but shouln't be a problem.

The first mechanical thing to break down was a ball joint though, it caused the entire can to fall on the left front wheel. It caused some damage, but its definatly fixable.

Next the starter was giving me a problem... it would keep making this god awful grinding noise, so I, but a new starter in. Worked well for about a week, then it came loose again, so I tightend that back up.

Somehow after tightening it, a bolt used to secure the starter fell into it.

This chewed up the ring gear pretty badly so it had to be replaced.

Other than that no problems Except for the hight idle speed (around 2500rpm) I'm assuming.

Great car, definetly a pimp mobile if you have the money, all you need is some paint, rims, tires, tinted windows, and a wicked sound system, and you will be getting lots of looks like me. :)

Smooth ride, little shaky at higher speeds though (90kms or over) Seats are nice and comfortable even the back, but if you're a taller person you might have some trouble cramming in there. The interior is nice with a analog clock and a center console, the horn can be a little awkward though considering its on the turn signle lever.
