2000 Mercury Cougar V6 review from North America
"Surprisingly sporty and fun for the price"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The fabric on the drivers seat was somewhat worn.
The rear brake pads needed to be replaced.
General comments?
This has been my favorite car so far, very fun to drive.
Coming from a 1998 Eclipse Spyder GS w/MT, the Cougar is superior in almost every way.
The acceleration much smoother and more powerful.
The Cougar's V6 emits a satisfying low growl under acceleration as opposed to the loud, somewhat obnoxious sounding Eclipse.
The handling is rock solid compared to the Eclipse and the overall feel of the car is a much more solid and smooth.
The 5 speed has been good, smooth and reliable.
The car has had a sleeper appeal. People are shocked at how well the lowly Cougar accelerates and handles, I was surprised myself the first time I drove it.
The Cougar (silver) with a few minor exterior modifications looks clean and sporty without attraction too much unwanted attention.
I have had no major reliability
problems.
