The car would stutter, hesitate and die when the fuel gage was below 1/4 tank. The fuel pump was ultimately replaced after a recall, and after being accused of running out of gas by the service department.
The trunk release button failed to work and the "motor" or mechanism was replaced.
The fuel pump problem was very aggravating for quite some time. I was almost ready to sell the car when I received the notice of recall in the mail. I have not had any problems with the fuel pump since it was replaced.
I am very happy with the performance and look of the car. I will always buy a Ford product.
For several months now I have been having this problem in which my 2001 cougar has been making this buzzing sound that appears to be coming from the engine. This sound can be heard when ideling and gets even louder when I accelarate. It has now been at the dealer's service dept. for over a week and they still cannot find what the problem is. The problem is they tell me to bring it in when the car is making the noise... but it seems that everytime I get to the dealer the noise stops. Just my luck... its costing me a ton of money everytime I bring it in and I just find this ridiculous. I actually think there should be a recall on all cougars by the manifacturer and have all of our loans cleared for having bought a vehicle that has so many problems. I bought this car to drive it not visiting the vehicle at the service shop.
