I bought my '99 Cougar in June of '03. The low coolant light came on right after I brought it home, and the 6 disc changer in the trunk quit working. When I went back to the car lot I purchased it from they replaced a censor for my coolant light and gave me another disc changer to try. I ended up putting a single disc head unit in and my low coolant light eventually came back on. A few months back my check engine light came on and after a diagnostics tester was plugged in I was told that the fuel was burning to rich OR to lean...didn't give me a definite answer. They told me that it wasn't anything that would hurt my car. I had it reset and tried different fuel, but it's come back on. I had a sunroof installed so I haven't had any problems with that. The vent for my winshield defrost pops out when I put the defrost on high... I'm considering using super glue!! About a year ago I had to have some kind of fuel censor replaced because my car started stalling (it's an automatic) and then would only stay running if I held the gas pedal in (not easy to back up). I also had to have some sort of relay switch replaced for my turn signals... they just quit working. My fog lights no longer work. I went to use them one night and the knob wouldn't pop out. I hit it a few time and it finally came out, but no fog lights! All in all I guess I've been pretty lucky. I haven't had to replace anything that was very costly... except my tires! I get Cooper Lifeliner's and they are about $113 a tire. I've noticed little cosmetic things that bother me like the black molding around my windows is all spotted and nasty looking and my paint (Rio Red) has faded (more so in certain areas) and has almost a magenta appearance at certain angles. I guess that's about it... I've tried to think of every little thing I considered to be a disaster, but after reading some of the other stories I feel very fortunate! I love my car I just wish there weren't so many little things that seem to be a "common" thing that needs fixing and when I go somewhere for answers that I could actually get some! Finding stores that carry the size tire I need is kind of hard since it's an odd ball size and ordering brake pads has been a nightmare! They have censors that plug in and even though I tell them I need the pads with censors I always seem to get the ones without. No big deal I guess... it's just very frustrating.

I have a 99 Cougar, it has a problem about EGR when I went to Autozone, they said it`ll cost about $100 to change. And also there is a suspension problem on the left back wheel. I changed 1 alternator. My advice: Don`t buy any American cars, just go and buy a Japanese car.
