1994 Mercury Cougar XR7 from North America - Comments

"Disappointment in such a fine machine"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

All four coil springs have the bottom coil broken off, but are still in the

spring perches.

The automatic transmission is going bad, slips/downshifts erratically. I had the camshaft sensor replaced ($15.00 part), and everything was fine for exactly one week. Until I changed the ignition wires.

The check engine light is on-sometimes.

The key can be pulled out of the ignition at any time the car is running.

The drivers side power window is "growling", by itself, in any open position.

Many other things that are not normal.

This car seems to have a persona or conciousness of its own.

General comments?

This car was bought from the original owner at 68,000 miles, and was very well taken care of.

This car has great power for its size!

Don't even think about driving this car on a snowy road.

Being a former Ford (s) owner, I am disappointed in its overall reliability for use in the real world.

I also have a 1993 Cougar, while I like it, there are a few things that I find strange. My ignition light has been on for almost 2 years and no one knows why. Also, the doors are so heavy that they have needed new hinges. Overall, I would buy it all over again. I mean, its a '93 and still runs good.

I also own a 93 cougar. it just blew a head gasket. while the car rides beautifully and is in considerably good condition, it is expensive to fix. but I love it and I will not get rid of it.

I just wanted to say I have owned a 1993 Cougar, and it now has 220,000 miles on it. Yes, I am finally looking for another car, but she was a gem. Very few problems and without doubt the best car I ever owned. I am going to miss her!
