1994 Mercury Cougar XR7 review from North America
"I wish I still had it, but won't mind trying another car"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Nothing has gone wrong with the car currently, but it does leak oil right now.
General comments?
I bought the car after my Civic went ka-put because it was roomy, comfy, and luxuroius. Fully loaded with dual power seats, leather, cruise, and power everything. The gas mileage is unbelievably good. 22-28 mpg! I couldn't believe it myself, but it frequently goes 400 miles on it's 15 gal tank.
I love the car, but I believe that it has it's faults.
The tranny always clunks when I put it in drive, and always slips when trying to accelerate.
The engine doesn't start easily, but once it fires a few times, it runs smooth as glass.
I wish the car were lighter. 0-60 in 8 sec ish for a V8 is too slow.
I just crashed it yesterday, so I am car free right now. It held up well, but the thing that bothered me was that the airbags didn't deploy in the front impact wreck. I crashed at 85 mph on the freeway, so I though it was enough to get it to blow. Oh well.
