1999 Mercury Cougar review from North America

Where do I begin?

Engine light came on half an hour after purchasing it. It later went off on its own (still don't know the problem)

A/C stopped blowing cold air. Compressor needed to be replaced.

Coolant began leaking. Water pump had to be replaced.

Emergency (parking) brake seized and snapped, the entire assembly needed to be replaced.

I guess there was some sort of computer malfunction. All the RPM, speed, temp and gas indicators went out while driving. As I would slow down, everything would come back to normal and I sped up it would happen again. This happened for about an hour and went away - still has not reoccurred, but who knows when it will happen.

Alternator went out - this needed to be replaced.

All the headlights other than the high beams also blew out - this is yet to be replaced.

The car has a mind of its own - the doors will lock by themselves when you are in the car, sometimes while driving, sometimes while just sitting there so I can never leave the keys in there or it might lock.

There was a point when my RPMs would stick at about 3000 when coming to a stop. The car would be almost completely stopped and they would just stick there and then eventually after a few seconds go down. This resolved on its own after a couple hours.

This is the worst car I have ever purchased.

I think that everything possible that could have gone wrong WENT WRONG.

I wanted to sell it, but each time I fixed a problem I wouldn't have enough time in between until the next problem arose.

Biggest headache of my life!!! I can't wait to get rid of this thing.
