2002 Mercury Mountaineer review from North America
"Not reliable at all!"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
My 02 Mountaineer would not start unless I cranked the key 3 times.
My 02 Mountaineer would hesitate, act like it had the hiccups, then it would lag behind when pressing the gas, and jerk when it caught up, when accelerating from stop to 40 mph.
Took Mountaineer in and they said it was the fuel pressure valve and the idle air control valve. $600 later the problem still existed when I took it home and brought it back in, and they said it was probably the torque convertor. Don't know how much that will cost! Only owned the car for 30 days! Only 50k.
General comments?
I owned a Jag and Toyota before this car; they both lasted over 200,000 miles. The Mountaineer I bought has had more problems in the first 30 days of owning it than any other car I've owned!
This 02 Mountaineer is a nightmare. I bought it because someone totalled my old vehicle. My hubby was in Iraq when I bought it, and he already has enough stress, and now he has to hear that his wife has been without a vehicle, because it keeps going back into the shop. I'm pregnant and I have a 4 year old, and we have to ask neighbors if we can go to the grocery store with them, because I have no ride. No family out here, as the military has moved us kind of far away.
