2002 Mercury Mountaineer Premier review from North America
"Junk, don't buy one"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
ABS Light came on.
All dash warning lights started coming on.
Check engine light now on.
General comments?
The car was fine other than a couple weird sounds, groaning sounds, weird chirpy noise, we ignored those. Then at 43,000 miles, the ABS light came on. Took it to Ford, they tell me the ABS module is bad and needs replaced. I told them it was making a grinding noise, I thought it sounded more like bearings. They assured me the car was SAFE to drive because I was not willing to pay the $975 for the new ABS module. Asked Ford for after warranty adjustment as I've owned 10 brand new Fords since driving and am probably the MOST brand loyal person you'd ever find, they basically told me to SHOVE IT!. So the day after we pick up the car, my wife said EVERY light started going on and off on the dash. Called the dealer and told them if the car was mis-diagnosed and it is really NOT safe to drive, they will get such a lawsuit. So they had me bring it back. Surprise, nothing wrong with the ABS at all, the $975 would have been a waste of money, it was some kind of wiring problem. Took them a week to find it, but given they mis-diagnosed, they gave me a car to drive and covered it under warranty!!! We've had it back a week, now the check engine light is on. Last Ford I will ever own.
