1997 Mercury Mystique GS review from North America
"' Will never buy another Ford/Mercury because of such poor quality in workmanship"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Bad wiring; also, motor mount issues.
General comments?
Should have looked this "gift horse" (a wholesale buy) more closely in the mouth. Battery light came on. Battery died. Installed new battery. Discovered insulation was cracking and coming off of the large wires that run (out-of-sight under where the battery sits) between the battery posts and the under-hood fuse box. We determined that the uninsulated wires were keeping the battery from charging fully. We checked the alternator and it was working properly, so the problem is the bad wiring. I have owned several different kind of cars over the past 35 years, foreign and domestic (this our 1st Ford Motor Company vehicle). This car has the cheapest quality wiring that I have ever seen.
