"Just barely works, but I get the feeling it will "just barely work" for 10 years to come"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Horizontal slats for the AC vents on the dashboard fall apart.

Backseat windows cannot be controlled from the back, luckily I can move them up and down via the driver's side door panel controls.

Took all of 3 days with the car for somebody to break the cup holders; he removed a can of soda too quickly and at a slight angle, snapping the weak plastic supports which hold them up.

Carpeting apparently not attached to the bottom of the car in any way. It is coming loose just about everywhere. A staple or two would have been nice, ford.

Drivers seat headrest will not stay still, half a mind to remove it altogether.

Heat and air conditioning dials do not work on their highest setting. I must switch the dial back a notch to get any air/heat.

All doorhandles are difficult to open, to the point where people entering my car for the first time frequently ask me to unlock their door when it's already unlocked.

Loud "thud" and violent jostling when it shifts from 1st to 2nd gear; scares me.

Pulls left, a lot. I can take my hands off the wheel and let my car glide around left bends on the highway.

WATER PUMP FAILURE - In the 1 year (10,000 miles) I have driven my car, the water pump has needed replacement 3 times. If I approach my car and there is no puddle of radiator fluid trickling out from under it, I consider that a miracle. The first time it broke was the very day I was supposed to drive 3 hours home from college, the car had about 73,000 miles on it. It happened again about 3 months ago at 79,000 miles. And as I write this my car is down at Monroe having it replaced again (just under 82,000 miles).

Check engine went on for no reason and went back off again a few weeks later. *Shrug* why am I not surprised.

Drivers side window stopped working for a couple days, works fine now and I hope it stays that way.

Car shakes violently past 70mph.

The "seek" buttons on the radio are terrible, it is nearly impossible to select a station.

General comments?

Overall I am pleased with the behind-the-wheel performance of this car.

Accelerates from 0-40 in about 2 seconds, terrific for making left turns out of a stop sign on a road with a high speed limit, which my area is full of. The people I cut off don't have to slow down much because in a matter of seconds I'm going faster than they are.

Handles tighter than any other car I've driven.

Can drive to work and back twice with no gas in the car, and by that I mean I notice the signs of it running out of gas, but it will still chug along if I am easy on the gas and avoid going up steep hills. The 14 gallon tank equates to about 2 weeks of driving when filled, for me at least.

Sound system is quality. Doesn't go as loud as I would like, but there is no distortion whatsoever. Feel free to blast rock cd's at full volume, the Mystique's speakers can handle it just fine.

Interior is TOO SMALL. I would not recommend a Mystique to anyone taller than 6'. I am 6'4'' and with the seat back all the way my knees are about 1 inch from the dashboard. Backseat is even smaller, only children will find it comfortable.

No debiliting mechanical problems at all aside from the weekly water pump replacement.

Oh my god, you hit the nail on the head with my mystique! I wrote a review and then started reading others, and I completely forgot about the rug coming up and the several other issues you mentioned that happened to me as well! This car is worthless!
