1993 Mercury Sable LS Premium review from North America
"Luxury car feel for compact car price!"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Nothing more than normal wear and tear has needed to be replaced on my sable. I purchased it with approx. 56,000 miles on it 2 years ago. It has 104,000 now. The only things I've had to replace were the brakes and rotors (normal). I also just had a complete tune-up done by my own choice.
General comments?
My Sable has been great to me. I drive everyday in stop and go traffic and its never gives me any trouble. I've also taken it on numerous trips of over 800 miles or better. It handles great on the interstates. The ride is comparable to that of a Cadillac. The digital climate control and instrument cluster also give it a luxury car feel with gas mileage that beats some 4-cylinders. My last trip I averaged 29 m.p.g. My only complaints would be that the body and interior in general don't wear well. My dash cracked last year, but its also always parked outside so that could be to blame for that. My digital climate control buttons have started to break one by one rendering them worthless to anyone that didn't know which buttons did what from the start. I know which ones are which so it doesn't bother me too much. As for the exterior all of my black trim on the doors is beginning to fade to gray. All in all my Sable has been much more reliable than my 87 Pontiac 6000 ever dreamed of being. I haven't had any of the problems with the transmission or engine like the ones I have been reading about, of course I have family that are mechanics so I get a lot of cheap preventive maintenance.
