1997 Mercury Sable GS review from North America
"I will never buy a Ford product again"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
When I bought the car in February of 2005 it had about 150,000 miles. Before the car was even drivable I had to replace the power steering pump twice. After the car was drivable we realized the transmission was bad and going out. Then they finally figured out it was the return hose to the power steering pump. Then the car started riding really rough. At 175,500 miles the struts need to be replaced and the power window wouldn't roll up so I had to replace the power window motor as well as the relay switch for the power window. Also at 178,000 miles the car started over heating, the coolant reservoir was all cracked so that had to be replaced, but the car is still over heating, I have put more money into repairs than I paid for the car.
General comments?
I will never buy a mercury again, I will buy a Chevy or something, but not a Ford product of any kind. I have never had to put so many repairs into any other vehicle I have owned, I have owned a Saturn and a 1990 Pontiac Grand Am, there has been slight problems with them, but not near as expensive or as many problems.
