1994 Mercury Tracer Station Wagon review from North America
"A great small family car"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
4th Cylinder rod bearing wore out at 168,000 mile. It was faster (1 week) and cheaper ($750 parts and labor) to replace the engine than fix the bearing. There are literally thousands of Ford Escort/Mercury Tracer engines available anytime.
No other problems.
General comments?
Affordable. Bought used at Kelly blue book value from dealer with a 30 day warranty. Gets 30mpg on average.
Performance. Even with a fully loaded wagon, this engine easily accelerates to freeway speeds.
Comfort. Fully loaded with AC, Cruise Control, and power windows, this car is great for long trips with the family. Our small children have lots of room in the rear seats, and the wagon cargo space is ample.
Ease. This is my wife's first car. She used it to pass her driver's test, and loves it. A good car for a first time driver.
