1995 Mercury Villager Nautica review from North America
"This has been a WONDERFUL vehicle and have no reservations about recommending it to anyone"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Had to replace the battery - unsure how many miles were on it at the time. Nothing surprising here.
At around 85k-90k, I noticed a fluid leaking from under the hood. Turned out to be power steering fluid. There was (is) a leak from the upper power steering hose. I didn't have it fixed and simply add fluid as necessary. More of an inconvenience than anything.
At about 90k, the brakes needed serviced. I took the van in and was told that the rotors needed replaced as they had been turned prior to me purchasing the van and there was not enough rotor left to be turned down again. Did not have these replaced and have been driving it up until now. Have had no problems with the brakes at all.
Was also told by this same service center that I needed to have the back passenger side shock replaced.
The leather seats (both driver and passenger) are starting to develop cracks now.
I just noticed the other day that the sunroof has decided to open and close when it wants to (as opposed to when I press the switch). Not that it does it by itself, but rather it doesn't always work when the switch is pressed. (a little 'whack' near the switch seems to have cured this temporarily)
General comments?
We bought this van as our first 'family' vehicle to haul our 2 little ones in. It has made many trips from Kansas City to Oklahoma and has performed flawlessly.
The seats are very comfortable no matter which one you are in.
Acceleration is great and it handles excellent for a van.
This van was a dream for the 4+ years and 50k+ miles we put on it.
