1987 Merkur XR4Ti review from North America
"Powerful comftorble fun to drive vehicle that deserves to be German"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Like all Merkur's the radiator hoses have a short life span, I've been through 3.
I've had a lot of trouble with the Vehicles electric system, Seems every few months the battery would go Dead.
My turbo has its touch to, 2psi haven't diagnosed the problem yet.
I've also got the Merkur's infamous problem with the spider gear, Seems my Xr4ti has yet eaten another one.
General comments?
The Merkur xr4ti is in my opinion yet the best german car built in a affordable cost range.
The response is that of a real sports car, The acceleration is Awesome!.
It handles windy roads like a 2nd skin, Hardly any or no real body roll.
The Merkur project never should have been shut down in the Fall of 1989, There should have been more thought, and enthusiasm in this car the cancel of the American marketing scheme due to not being able to come up with one should have been solved. If the Merkur Xr4ti was reborn in todays technology it would be in my opinion the best over all buy. and would aside from luxery still put the BMW, and AUDI to shame.
