1992 Mitsubishi 3000GT SL review from North America
"Very nice looking car, but costs a lot of money to repair"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Bought this car with 65,000 miles. Only problem when purchased was the A/C didn't work.
68,000 miles I got the 60,000 mile maintenance done.
72,000 miles the Transmission died ($2600 replaced at Mitsubishi Dealer)
77,000 miles the engine died ($8000 at Mitsubishi dealer)
Now the most frustrating thing is that I never raced this car and never tried to modify it. Thinking the previous owner must have really hammered it I figured I was in good shape from here on out.
92,000 miles 2nd gear went for no reason at all, I remember it like it was yesterday. I was driving on a small town road at 25Mph shifting from 2nd to 3rd and I heard a quick noise between shifts. It seemed coincidental and I thought the noise might have been from someone in town doing something, but I downshifted to 2nd to make sure. Sure enough there was some noise coming from (my car) the Transmission so I shifted out of 2nd right away. Mitsubishi dealer charged me $80 to tell me 2nd gear was bad which I obviously knew. $2550 to replace a whole new Transmission again. I refused to go with it. I called the Headquarters of Mitsubishi and everything seeing what could be done for me, nothing. Went to cottmans transmission for $2400. They replaced 2nd gear and gave me a 3 year 36,000 mile warranty. Mitsubishi warranty on a new Transmission is only 12,000 miles. Kinda tells you that they know they sell garbage.
That was the last major problem I have had and I guess I should feel lucky at this point.
General comments?
Overall I really do like this car, but I wouldn't buy one again. The Mitsubishi dealership didn't try to help me out with any of my problems. I truly believe they think I was someone who beat hell out of the car or they just cared about making money. I know I don't beat this car. In fact I have had this car for over 4 years and last week was the first time I ever had tire spin. It was very cold out. I have no reason to come on here and lie about anything. If you beat your car your going to get burned, but it is very frustrating when you do everything you can for your car inside and out and it still doesn't take care of you.
