2004 Mitsubishi Colt LS review from Australia and New Zealand
"Not a very good car, but not a bad on either"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Noisy front suspension (mechanical sounds).
Bad wheel alignment from first day.
General comments?
The Colt is not a very good car, but it's not a bad car either, it's just a car. After collecting the car and washing it I noticed it kind of looked like a few years old. The paint had been washed with a broom and the windows with a steelo pad. There are numerous scratches on the interior, paint work and windows and the rear seat has some water marks where I guess some stains were removed. There has been an accident reapir to the rear side of the car and the plasticia on the windows has been imposible to get off. The scratches on the windows I have been told cannot be repaired. Each wheel has been removed and refitted and every nook and cranny of the exterior was full of dirt. Each door had to be flushed out because whenever a window was lowered it would come back up covered in mud. The dealer has traeted this car badly but there is nothing I can do about it. I would love to know the previous life of this car before it was sold to me as a brand new car.
The car drives well, but the ride and handling are not up to scratch. The rear end is skitish and the front end is niosy as well. Sounds like car doors closing everytime you go over a bump.
The engine and transmission are superb, but the drive sport and low modes are totally useless and only make the engine rev harder. Fuel economy is great 6lt per 100km around town.
The interior is poorly designed and uses up a lot of the available space. The rear seats use an octopus strap to hold them in the upright position when folded forward (very poor). The front seats are small, flat and have no support in any direction at all. The gear lever gets in the way and the dashboard is far too big. The plastics are poor quality and will mark easily. There is no centre console, cargo shelf or blind. These items are available, but cost an unbelievable amount to buy. Console $350.00 and cargo blind same amount.
The dealers know very little about these cars. When I was shopping for the console most of the dealers laughed at me because they thought I was talking about the colt that was discontinued in 1990. Not a good start.
The sound system is a very old model, but sounds great and works very well.
Overall not a bad car, but compared to the Suzuki Ignis that I owned for just over a year it's fatastic.
