1997 Mitsubishi Diamante LS review from North America

"Best car I've ever driven!!!"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Alternator has gone out.

Window regulators in the both rear doors.

My front seats show major wear.

General comments?

I bought this car from an auto auction last year, because I read about the diamante and thought it was a great car. I bought it for only $1400 and it needed work. The struts needed to be replaced, the front bottom piece of the bumper that surrounds the fog lights was ripped out, it needed a new battery and alternator. This car is one of the best cars I've ever ridden in, and driven. I love my diamante. I haven't really had any major problems with it yet. Maintenance on it is costly, so I do the majority of it myself. For instance, a tune up is roughly $450-500 on that car right now, so I just did it myself. It's not really hard to work on. It's fun to drive, and when you do drive it, it makes you feel like you are someone important. Mine was one of the first remodeled diamantes ('97) manufactored in 96'and released early '97 and it is still a beast when stepping on the gas pedal. One of the best things about it is the adaptive transmission. A lot of people that own a 97-2004 diamante haven't read their manual or looked it up online. They think that they are having transmission problems after they get it and have it for a few months or after they reset the battery or let someone else drive it. They think that it's lunging or shifting hard but it does that b/c the tranny adapts to how you shift and when it feels like it's shifting hard or lunging forward, it is because it's adapting or learning the driver. I didn't know that either when I first got it. I almost bought a new tranny til I read about it and so I kept driving it and put it on the highway more and it just stopped and hasn't done it again, unless I let someone else drive it. especially if they don't drive the same way that I do. This is a great car.
