2006 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS review from North America
"Great car"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
I have the car since 2006, got it brand new. I think this is a great car, but there were a few things that went wrong with it. First problem I got was Vibration is the steering wheel when I was breaking at speeds reater then 120Km/h. My car was at about 25000 km. So the dealership replaced the rotors at no cost to me. When my car had 50K km the same problem appeared again and the dealership refused to change rotors, so I picked up a set of cross drilled rotors and high performance brake pads for my car and replaced those myself, total cost for parts and labour was 400$. Dearleship was charging over 200$ for 1 front rotor. Since it was out of warranty I did it at my friends garage, takes about 1.5 hours for front and rear. This said, my brake pads were never changed and were still good. I Blame my driving habits, I drive very fast and brake fast. Now my wheels looks amazing and braking improved.
After first winter, my AC didn't work when I tried turning it on in spring, about 35K on the car. Dealership fixed this and said that fuse on AC blue up, about 40$ cost. Other than that, I had no issues on the car.
General comments?
This is a great car, but for 2 people, I was able to fit 6 people once, but it was very uncomfartable. When I just got it, I got a lot of heads turned to me, since I took the "eclipse" off the back, few people asked me what kind of car this is.
I have sun and sound package, it is worth the money, sun roof is great and sound is amazing with 6 MP3 disk changer.
It is really goot on cornering. It is very good on the road, I was able to drive it at 180km/h and it just sticks to the road, but at that speed it got no acceleration, but what do you expect from V4 2.4L.
This is a very heavy car, and got tons of airbags, like 8 airbags. on average I get about 10.5L/100km city and highway. I really wish it had onboard computer. The pickup is slow, mazda 5 was trying to race me, and I hardly beat it. Manouvering is great, but slow accelaration, I didn't buy this car for racing, mostly for looks. Interior is really big, for 2 people. I am 6'3 and I move my sit about 2/3-3/4 way back. This is my first brand new car, before I had used ones such as mazda 626 V6 (it was faster), saturn sl1, dodge shadow. I am just waiting for warranty to expire to start tunning this car. I forgot, one downside, is the tires very expensive to replace about 200$ per tire. I have not changed them yet, but they are getting there.
I think it is great car for young guys like me (26).
