1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS Spyder review from North America
"Very fun, but not super reliable"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Clutch needed to be replaced at 105000 miles.
Issues with engine sputter, trans slipping.
Seats are stained from leakage at front bars.
Rear window motors seem to break on every single Spyder from this era I have seen.
General comments?
This car is more fun to drive than any other car I've owned; the reliability and workmanship seem to be way worse however.
I bought it with high miles for nearly nothing, less than 4000 in great physical shape, but needed to change out the clutch, have some wires and spark plugs replaced. For about 1500 worth of work, it seems to run fine now.
Seems testy, like it would be easy to mess up the manual on this car, gotta drive it carefully, but it is so fun to maneuver, and the top down fun more than makes up for the reliability issues.
Definitely a cool car to have around, but if you can't fix things yourself on the go, I wouldn't recommend road trips.
