1995 Mitsubishi FTO GPX from UK and Ireland - Comments

"Good looking, quick and rare."

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Nothing.

General comments?

Brilliant fun. The sound of the engine at 8000rpm has to be heard to be believed. Not many people know what it is but you get a lot of looks as it has a beautiful shape. The handling is incredible, no hot hatch can stay with it and most other so called performance cars have a hard time as well.

I have just turned 21 and am looking into purchasing an FTO GPX. I have shopped around and the cheapest insurance I have found is £1800 (which is high, but do-able). I just wanted to know really the power it has in comparison with other cars like the Nissan 200SX, Escort Si, Golf VR6 AND Renault Clio Williams?

Performance wise all those cars are cool, but the fto mivec is up there even with its um automatic box, but for pure style and driving pleaure there is no comparison go fto, and watch the heads turn...

Own a GPX manual and agree with the sentiment that the noise of the MIVEC engine at full throttle renders your car stereo useless. You will want to listen to the engine all the time!

Handling is superb and its true performance kicks in at over 5000rpm.

Ooh that 2 liter Mivec engine! it's music to your ears, as it should be 200 bhp from 2 litre V6! only the civic type-r engine matches it's power to engine size ratio, 100 bhp per litre, and noise! those japanese they know a thing or two when it comes to engines!

Love FTOS.. actually the last comment about power to engine size is wrong.. the honda s2000 has the honour of being the best ratio bhp per (naturally aspirated) ltr car in the world.

Hi there, james B here.

From what it sounds like some japanese imports had an electronic restrictor on so the car cannot go over 112mph for some odd reason so my best guess would be that yours has one on and is restricting the revs there.

A chip would easily remove this restriction.

Hi there I have the same problem the car won't go more that about 6500rpm if it was the restrictor then it would only stop the top speed if anyone has any details d4rr3n_k3ttl3@hotmail.co.uk.
