1992 Mitsubishi Galant GLS review from UK and Ireland

"I give the Galant a healthy 10/10 inall respects"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Nothing.

General comments?

My car is a 1992 Mitsubishi Galant GLS 4-door saloon with a manual gearbox. It's covered just 48,000 miles from new. The only problems encountered in the first few days of ownership have been split wiper blades and vibrating steering at any speed over 10mph (both are faults found on any car!). These were apparent on the car on the day I bought it and were easily cured by fitting a pair of new wiper blades and two new tires on the front (having them properly balanced at the time of fitting too).

There is a slight scraping noise from the clutch area in first gear although this is very intermittent. My local dealership says that it's nothing serious and, in the worst case scenario, it would cost about £150 to have a near clutch thrust bearing installed.

It's a very roomy car and has the most comfortable seating of any car I've ever driven. The seats are fully adjustable not only forwards and backwards, but also up and down. You can even adjust the lumbar support. The steering wheel can be lowered or raised too meaning you can set an almost infinite number of driving positions.

The engine is quite powerful for an 1800cc unit and the 5-speed gearbox gives it a relaxed cruising feel at around 70mph. Very little sound from the engine gets into the interior making it feel as though you are driving a much more expensive car.

The bodywork is in amazingly good condition and the engine bay looks as clean and tidy as a two-year-old car.

Overall I feel the Galant is a wonderfully put together car which still looks very modern. It's fair to say that it represents a lot of car for the money - just compare it to other cars of the same age.
