1999 Mitsubishi Galant DE review from North America
"Good used deal, just check the brakes"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Water pump replaced under warranty at 30,000 miles.
Brakes redone at 60,000 and 90,000 miles, due to excessive rotor warp which has never been solved.
Fuse box melted down due to a fuse blowing related to the air conditioner.
Realized that the cabin pollen filter must be replaced every year else the clogging causes the air conditioner to blow out a fuse often.
General comments?
The 2.4L four cylinder engine is quite torquey, and drives well at 3,000 rpm (about 72 MPH).
The transmission shifts very well.
The car is light, so it's easy to drive in comparison to heavier cards.
The front seat on the DE is slightly uncomfortable, due to inferior amount of padding.
Body has exhibited little or no rust in seven years.
This car is built to go 12 years or 180,000 miles.
Mitsu's are very good cars, but probably not up to the quality standards of a Toyota or Honda.
Dealers are hard to find, and the service is variable from dealer to dealer, anywhere from outright crooks to pretty good dealers.
