Steering wheel developed a shudder.
I own a 95 Pajero long wheel base.
I am very happy with the car and I've taken it cross country from England to Poland twice.
Just recently its developed a shudder on the steering wheel and there is also a shudder when I place my foot on the brake.
Can anyone please tell me what causes this as I'm not a very technical person.
This problem seem to be getting worse.
Is it caused by a fault with the steering or brakes.
Any help would be gratefully received
thanks.
Most likely it is an unevenly worn tyre. Check them all.
As with most automobile-related problems, it could be several things. True, you could have a flat spot on a tire. What is more likely is that your front brake rotors are warped. The shuddering upon braking is a classic symptom of warped rotors (yes, this is a brake issue). To fix that, a machine shop will resurface your brake rotors by grinding them smooth. Other possibilities include suspension problems, such as the front tires are not aligned properly, or the car has worn out bushings that allow the tires to wander a little going down the road. You could also need to have your wheels balanced, which is accomplished by clipping those little lead weights to the rim. Also check tire inflation pressures.
Actually most likely it was warped brake discs, not a problem at all, chuck some new ones on for around 80 quid.
