1997 Mitsubishi RVR Hyper Sports Gear Type R review from Australia and New Zealand

"The sleeper nature of this car combined with the insane engine make it a one of a kind rarity"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

The gearbox was rebuilt at 100000km after three years of good driving with 18psi boost. Head gasket was worn out and replaced at around 60000km. This car deserves a nice strong clutch as it has used two so far, however it isn't an expensive thing to replace.

General comments?

What an amazing vehicle. The Rvr Hyper Sports Gear Type R is not for the faint hearted. Packing a turbo charged engine from it's slightly skinner big brother the Lancer Evo, powering (apparantly) 184kw standard however it feels closer to two hundred. With a large front mount intercooler also borrowed from his brother is stuck out the front to ensure only the coldest air gets in to the engine. The constant 4wd is a pleasure gripping the vehicle around any corner at sometimes crazy speeds. Built to understeer just incase you push it a little to hard. Standard Recaro Sports seats hug you to ensure you don't go flying around the cabin when you decide to have some fun with the wrx you just came up behind.
