"Cheap sports car for the first car buyer :-)"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Bought second hand for $200.

Has a lot of rust around the bottoms of the doors and in the rear passenger side wheel well.

Screwy electronics, broken fuel light, etc.

Pool of oil in the air filter.

Gets into third and doesn't change down automatically.

Unresponsive transmission.

Busted rear shocks.

General comments?

I'm currently doing this car up, hence the problems it has. Despite the problems listed, I believe it has potential to be a really sweet little cruiser :-)

It has a good body shape and I find it to be a generally smart looking car.

Yeah I got a 1978 scorpion for 2,800 last year,.only because it was like no other I'd EVER seen. The person who had it before me modified it to the max, including a sunroof, rx7 series 2 daytona flare kit, daytona mags, pump up air shocks and a HUGE exaust,.

I think these cars are great, for they're age I really think they looks great and go hard. I can smoke up my wheels in the dry =)

want a picture of it? email me at beef@flangemusic.org.

I've got a GJ Scorpion and the only thing to rebuild is the gearbox (manual) and body as it has rust as well. If you have a strange vibration my suggestion is to get the tail shaft balanced with new unies and it will feel like a new car. I done it and the thing is better than my mothers brand new Accent. 315,000 km.

I currenlty own a 1984 mitsubishi sigma 'se' sedan with a 2.6 lt astron2 motor. The extra's which I have done to it include:

tinted windows, sports exhaust which sounds very rorty, and few other general repairs. The car is immaculate and goes very well. It has a 3 speed auto and is very reliable. Also I haven't seen another better sigma around yet which is as good. It is very straight and sound. great performance!

I have a 1979 2.0L 5 Speed I bought recently in Adelaide, The paint's a bit chalky and the clutch is about to pack it in. But what do you expect for $600?

Body and motor are excellent and it goes like no other 2 litre I've driven. Also have an '81 2.6 L 5 speed that for some unknown reason deprived #1 bearing of oil, seized and spun the bearing, wrecked the crank and then let go. My local mechanic informs me that the imported 2.6 is not the same as the Sigma (local) motor and will be difficult to replace. Any comments?

I'm an 18 year old Australian and have just bought my first car, a 2.6L 1980 Mitsubishi Scorpion Coupe, for $1,700.

For a car of its age, it runs beautifully. The previous owner had it as his first car and kept it in great condition. There were a couple of minor problems with it which were disguised very cleverly, but are now in the process being fixed and/or replaced.

It has 16" silver mags that match the silver paint job, and a larger exhaust tip that sings a nice exhaust note. The coupe looks very sexy and the drivability is better than expected for its age.

It takes to the corners like a bee to honey. I even find that it accelerates nice... up to 3rd gear. The torque seems to run out in 4th and 5th though.

Overall it's a great car, especially for a first car. Please feel free to inquire more about it by sending me an e-mail to johnp@dcsi.net.au.

I have a 1979 GE Chrysler Scorpion convertible which can be seen at freewebs.com/scorpionhome its been one of the most reliable vehicles I have ever owned. I also have a SEL Mercedes, but id rather drive the Scorpion any day... except rainy ones :) Lucky for me here in Adelaide South Australia its mostly hot and sunny.

Any one considering a Scorpion can find very good examples that have been looked after over the years for less than $AU 2000.00.
