1979 Mitsubishi Scorpion GH review from Australia and New Zealand
"Has great potential for modification"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Worn rings on original 2.6ltr motor and the head gasket blew several times due to over revving engine (2.6ltr).
Some rust on wheel arches and sills under the doors.
All brakes needed overhauling due too bad maintenance by the previous owners.
Blew up original gearbox (stripped second gear) due to too much power.
General comments?
I originally brought this car when 18 while I was studying and for the next two years loved it, but couldn't afford to modify it or maintain it correctly.
Now days it been lowered 1.5inches, has 15in. mag wheels, a supra 5speed gearbox, brass button clutch, and most of all I've fitted it with a 4G63 turbo motor out of a Galant VR4. Its also been resprayed with a Mazda Cosmo grey 2pak.
With 15psi of boost it has 166kw of power at the wheels (right now its 19psi, but hasn't been dynoed).
I have to say its the most fun to drive of all the different cars I've driven in my life, it accelerates, handles and brakes excellent, and when modified is very hard to beat by anything, but the most modified or exotic cars out there.
