1988 Mitsubishi Shogun LWB review from UK and Ireland
"Love it, a faithful old friend"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Needed rear shocks, bulbs, new fuel pipe and a bit of welding for MOT.
General comments?
Can't believe how well it runs considering its got 183k on it. Feels like it could pull a train. Since the fuel line was fixed, it starts on the button and the only problem is it struggles to idle for a few moments just after you start it, but other than that it's fine.
The suspension is a bit firm, but it's great to be in and has been described by a friend as "like being hugged by a big warm friendly bear". I couldn't agree more; the car just feels like it's protecting you and keeping you safe.
I absolutely love this car, and I don't want to sell it, but it gets through loads of diesel and is impractical for somebody who mainly drives around the city or on motorways. I bought the car for towing (a field in which these cars are famously capable). Once its job is done I will be forced to sell it and buy something better on fuel, which I'm not happy about.
I should point out this is all coming from somebody who normally hates 4x4's, especially those modern soft-roader's. But something about this old Shogun just feels genuine and honest.
