My starter has gone bad two times.
Both CV joint boots have had to be replaced.
The power steering pump has had numerous hose leaks.
The transmission speed shift sensor has quit working.
There is a reocurring thumping sound coming from the brakes that no one seems to be able to figure out.
The torque converter had to be replaced.
The turn signals keep short circuiting and bliink really fast sometimes.
The carpet on the floor has not held up well.
The door handle broke off in my hand.
The car has absolutely no power, it feels like it can't even get out of it's own way or make it up a hill of any size with out some major down shifting on the transmission's part.
The car does handle very well even in the snow, probably partially due to it's huge lack of power and inability to spin a tire if it wanted to.
This car to me has seemed like a huge money pit the parts haven't been cheap and the torque converter was pretty expensive.
The interior of this car leaves much to be desired. The seats are very very uncomfortable on long trips. They have no lumbar support and are as hard as a rock. The steering tilt wheel hardly tilts about an inch or so. The cruise control is on the dashboard (what's up with that) which makes it inconvenient to find at night with out turning on the overhead light. The backseats have no leg room at all with the seats in the back position however, comfort wise they seem OK.
The AC is more than adequate to cool the car even on hot summer days, but the defrost heater never seems to work very well. In order to get it to work you must turn the blower on full blast, crank the heat as high as you can get it and turn the AC on at the same time and leave it that way during the trip or the windows will fog back up so quick it's not even funny. Needles to say it really sucks in the summer time and it's more convenient to just roll the windows down.
I don't see how your car in such bad shape. You must run the hell out of it. I have a 1986 200sx and I've only had 2 problems out of it. The cv joints have been replaced and I've had to put 2 fuel injectors in it. Other than that it's a great car.
I'm really sorry to hear about your car mate I myself own a 200 sx as do a number of people I know, as for the lack of power you must have had a really bad motor I cannot fault mine even though I have put in a larger turbo, intercooler, fuel pump.
Hello mate are you sure you had a 200sx seems you have commented a lot about problems next time don't buy a dog take someone with you who knows a bit about the car,,,o and about the power comment what you chatting about.
You've need to get a better tecnition working for you. It seemes like he's taking advantage of you. I replaced several parts on my 95 200 SX. I've trained as a tec. myself which saved me money ofcoruse. The 200 SX has a high RPM power range don't be affraid to use it. CV boots always fails at soom point in every car / starters as well. At the least take it to more than one tec.etc
I just don't see what exactly it is that you are doing wrong. I know a handful of people who own 200's and everyone of them have no problem with power. Its my guess that someone just suckered you out of some cash, or you are just afraid to actually give it some gas. Sr20's aren't nothing to play with. Obviously you have done something wrong.
Sorry to hear about your troubles. I've owned a 95 200sx for 9 years now and am amazed and how well Nissan built this car. I now have 222,000km and it still give purrs like a kitten and no oil consumption. And its got lots of power between 4-6000 rpm.
They never made a 1.6 Automatic 200sx. You have the wrong car buddy. If you ever jump into a 200 sx any time soon, I think you will be spinning up the rear tyres very quickly.
The original poster stated that he/she is from North America which means he/she likely has the B14 chassis which has a FF layout. The majority of these cars were indeed equipped with a 1.6 DOHC engine. The poster also stated that his/her vehicle was equipped with automatic transmission... this is probably why he/she was complaining about the lack of power. A 5-spd would be more ideal for a car like this if you're looking for better performance.
