This is a very reliable car. Some of the only things that have gone wrong are the trunk latch doesn't keep the trunk closed.
I think my transmission is going to go out soon. which is understandable because I rive this car very hard.
Other than that, the car is in great shape.
The 240sx, otherwise known as the Silvia, is an outstanding car. The rear wheel drive makes this car very fun to drive. I am really into drifting, an this car's solid chasie and quick throttle response enables me to rift to the cars full potential.
I am planning to soon swap my motor with the sr20det (the japanese turbocharged motor for this car) which will truly make this car a true sports car.
With upgraded suspension, "Z" rated tyres and the thrill of speed, the 240sx is an absolutly amazing performance machine. This is one of the best suspensions and handeling cars of its time, The multi-link suspension used in the 240sx can keep up with, or even out perform the sports cars of 2003.
All in all, the 240sx is a very reliable, high performance vehicle, I seriously doubt that I will ever be able to sell this amazing performance car.
I understand that this is a great car for drifting, but how can you drift with automatic???
I agree with you... 240sx is a marvelous car. I enjoy mine, and I too will swap out my ka24de for the sr20det very soon.
Preferably the S15 engine.
I truly understand the 240SX SE is a really outstanding car, but since the car is mostly an automatic can you get the same performance level for it, if it had a manual transmission such as in areas as Drifting and with just straight up speed for racing.
I understand how to drift with an automatic. Five speeds are better, but there is a little something called the emergency brake. This guy probably knows about hot to drift with the brakes both front and rear. But he probably got this car saying hey rear wheel drive sports car. Then after sliding a few times started to drift. I drift every day in my 1993 240 . I have intake, exhaust, clutch, and suspension, 300 brakes, and I also have cheap 17 inch wheels. Watch the wheel clearance on the brake upgrade!
Yeah that's cool, I'm buying a 240 next week and plan to do a lot of modifications to it. I've heard very good words bout this car, and I hope they are all true.
The sr20det is good, but the S15 is a weaker tranny if I was you I would go for the S14 even if it is a 5 spd it is more reliable even when drifting and the money you save from that tranny you can put it toward upgraded turbos
or better the suspension.
Hi there, I'm from PerĂº and I already have a 1995 240sx and it's wonderful, I had five toyota levin before, but this 240 is very very more in all ways. Hey mine is also automatic and drift very nice, is not the same than an mechanic gearbox, but it feels good.
I have a 1995 nissan 240sx SE and it is awesome. I'm fixing some problems I created in an accident with the underside of a truck, but it's still an amazing car. The SR20DET is the most common engine to throw in, but the only reason it has more power than the KA24DE is because it is turboed and the KA is N/A. If you take that money and turbo the KA you'll have a little more horsepower than the SR and a LOT more torque (which is what really wins races anyways). I reccomend you keep that KA24DE and turbo it. But overall I deffinately reccomend everybody gets this car. It's beutiful, quick, and has a lot of potential.
I definitely agree with the above comment. Turbo the KA! Don't be an SR bandwagoner, there are other choices out there for getting power out of your 240. I wish more people realized there are other routes to take, most are just like "Aww man I need some power to this thing, guess I have to get an Sr20!" NOT. Look into alternative methods, the SR is overrated.
I completely agree with the comment above. Everyone thinks now that if they have a 240 that they got to swap in a sr20det. Well yea, you can do that and put up the psi and get a hell of alot of horsepower out of them, but there are alternate routes.
IF you got the money, then i'd suggest something other than an sr20. Maybe try a rb20, rb25, or an rb26. Again, I will always go with the skyline inline 6 turbocharged engine than a sr20det from silvia's that everyone is aiming for.
Whatever you do do not try to turbo the ka24de, this engine will pretty much tear itself apart, even if you change the internals. and it does not like to rev because it was designed to be a truck engine. I would suggest you wait and save some money for an sr20det which will already come turboed and it will be able to handle allot of abuse. but if you still want to turbo your ka, do abit of reading on Nissan forums (Google sr20det vs ka24de) these people know what they are talking about and can give you a lot of good information.
