1993 Nissan 240SX review from North America
"A very reliable, cheap, fun to drive car"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Changed belts at 166000
Seats getting rough.
Heat shields on exhaust vibrated.
Speedometer 5mph to fast.
Shifter has lots of slack.
General comments?
In summer 2005 I went looking for a cheap, economical little car to drive back and forth to work. I already own a 2001 mustang cobra and a 1997 s-10 ss
that are both modified and like to burn lots of hi-test gas. I found this little gem in a local news paper for $2200,and since I realy didn't want anything front wheel drive I snapped it up.
Great handling car even on cheap tires.
I love the factory gear ratio, nice and low for respectable acceleration and good power on hills.
Surprising torque in the mid-range, even after driving v-8s and v-6s, probably helped by the its low gear ratio and the cars light weight.
Really easy to drive fast.
Speed governor set at 115mph, a little to low in my opion.
Would be a lot more fun with a limited slip differential.
Seats are pretty uncomfortable.
Might as well be a two seater since back seats are more or less useless.
Pretty good room for stuff with rear seat laid down.
Factory speakers are tiny and weak.
Enough leg room for me while driving, I'm about 6'0.
So far aside from routine maintenance, have spent very little money on it.
Vibrating exhaust shields very easy to rip off.
Really easy to shift fast even with worn out factory shifter.
Stock clutch feels somewhat weak, but with 166k on what I believe is the factory clutch, it should be weak.
I drive this car hard, harder than anything else I own, but this car keeps asking for more.
At the age of 28,I seem to be a old coot as far as 240 owners go.
I'm not much into the import tuner thing to much, I've had v-8s all my life. But if I were to modify a import, it would be a 240.
Averaged 32mpg taking it really, really, really easy just to see what kind of economy I could get. Still gets 25-28 mpg driving like a maniac.
Extremely reliable.
