Changed belts at 166000
Seats getting rough.
Heat shields on exhaust vibrated.
Speedometer 5mph to fast.
Shifter has lots of slack.
In summer 2005 I went looking for a cheap, economical little car to drive back and forth to work. I already own a 2001 mustang cobra and a 1997 s-10 ss
that are both modified and like to burn lots of hi-test gas. I found this little gem in a local news paper for $2200,and since I realy didn't want anything front wheel drive I snapped it up.
Great handling car even on cheap tires.
I love the factory gear ratio, nice and low for respectable acceleration and good power on hills.
Surprising torque in the mid-range, even after driving v-8s and v-6s, probably helped by the its low gear ratio and the cars light weight.
Really easy to drive fast.
Speed governor set at 115mph, a little to low in my opion.
Would be a lot more fun with a limited slip differential.
Seats are pretty uncomfortable.
Might as well be a two seater since back seats are more or less useless.
Pretty good room for stuff with rear seat laid down.
Factory speakers are tiny and weak.
Enough leg room for me while driving, I'm about 6'0.
So far aside from routine maintenance, have spent very little money on it.
Vibrating exhaust shields very easy to rip off.
Really easy to shift fast even with worn out factory shifter.
Stock clutch feels somewhat weak, but with 166k on what I believe is the factory clutch, it should be weak.
I drive this car hard, harder than anything else I own, but this car keeps asking for more.
At the age of 28,I seem to be a old coot as far as 240 owners go.
I'm not much into the import tuner thing to much, I've had v-8s all my life. But if I were to modify a import, it would be a 240.
Averaged 32mpg taking it really, really, really easy just to see what kind of economy I could get. Still gets 25-28 mpg driving like a maniac.
Extremely reliable.
Replacing the OEM ECU of a manual transmission 240 with the ECU of an automatic transmission 240 gets rid of the speed limiter (verified by numerous Nissan mechanics) and the top speed (verified by me running the car wide open in the desert) becomes approximately 140-150 mph. I couldn't get an exact figure since the speedometer needle bumps up against the odometer reset pin, about an inch or so past the 120 mph position on the speedometer gauge. I picked up a used ECU from an automatic transmission for 80 dollars. You just can't beat a 40-50 mph top speed gain for the same price as a pep-boys "wannabe performance" muffler. This modification is an absolute MUST for anyone with a manual 240sx, especially if your into embarrassing Honda civic owners :-)
I have owned my 93 240SX since I purchased it in 1993. I bought it with approx. 7 miles on it. It now has over 193,000. I recently replaced the original clutch. This car handles wonderfully and has good gas mileage. The speakers need replacement and the fin has rusted, but with the exception of cosmetic work, I have mostly done preventative maintenance on this car.
I just hit 228000 miles. on this car. Bought it in '93 and love it as much as ever. I believe this car will never die. Engine purrs, probably thanks to over 70 oil changes.
I put a new spoiler on a few years ago and no longer use it as a handle to open the hatch. It's ready for its second repaint. The left back window has again gotten rust damage underneath it. I will fix it again.
Speedometer is about 6 mph fast which probably saved me tickets until I realized.
Heat shield rattled so I took it off about 100000 miles. ago. No problems.
Needs new carpet.
Transmission rebuild once and radiator replaced. AC is practically all done over. This was little by little over years.
I love this car.
