1991 Nissan 2 X 4 Truck review from North America

The Air Conditioning lines had a leaking problem. Nissan installed a drain line in the cab to drain out excess condensation every once in awhile. The Air conditioning eventually stopped working at approx 100,000 miles. I did not fix this problem.

One of the passenger rear leaf spring clamps fell off at 45,000 miles, but was easily replaced.

Nissans from this Era had common clear coat problems. After 6 years or so the paint began to oxidize, but this is no fault of the truck itself, just crappy paint. Grey, red, and blue trucks seemed to have this problem the most. Green, Black, and White trucks normally have flawless paint. My truck was red.

This truck was amazing, I highly recommend it to anyone in the market for a good low budget pickup.

The engine was very quick for it's size and the truck handled like a car on curves.

My Dad bought this truck when it was nearly new (it had been repoed from the previous owner) and I started driving it in 1996 while in High School.

I drove this truck everywhere in HS and thru college (I went to a college that was 700 miles away from home) and being young did not treat it as well as a car should be treated, but the truck took the abuse with no complaints.

To my knowledge only minimal maintenance was ever done to the truck. Belts and hoses were replaced, brake service was done, the oil was changed every 3k miles until I got it, then not quite so often sometimes when I went to college.

The interior was comfortable, but not luxurious by any means. The standard cab had little room for more than one passenger and even less for storage.

The truck was great for hauling and pretty nice for towing too (I towed several boats and other trailers on it and still had power to get up hills).

Gas mileage could have been better, I averaged about 24mpg on the highway, 20 in the city... but still not bad for a truck.

The best thing about this truck was the reliability though, it literally ran forever. Remember the ads for the car where they said "you could weld the hood shut and drive forever" well that ad should have been for THIS Truck!

The clutch was very strong and was like new the day I sold it, the engine never gave me any trouble at all. I never even replaced the timing chain.

I traded this truck to a dealer when I bought one of my current cars and ever since I've regretted it. It would have made an excellent 2nd vehicle... and I'm certain that someone is driving it to this day, well past 200k miles.

I bought another Nissan 2 years ago as a 2nd car specifically because of my good experiences with this truck.
