Mufflers were bad when I bought it. Apparently this is a common fault; OE mufflers were poor.
Starter is going bad, but is still original for this car.
Automatic antenna does not go down. Probably a simple fix, but reception is not affected.
It is expensive to own because of its poor mileage and premium gas requirements. (Although the owner previous to me did not put premium in it and reported no problems.)
It is expensive to own because of the compact engine compartment and replacement parts. The Z is reliable, but an old car will need repairs regardless, and on the Z these will cost more.
That being said, the car accelerates, handles, and brakes very well. It is a good looking car, and is rare, making it even more eye-catching. If you can handle the slightly increased responsibilities of owning one, it is worth every penny.
You were talking about the expensive cost to repair the 300zx. If I am planning to look for a 1991 300zx non turbo Automatic, mileage 100000 miles would you still recommand it?
If I need to fix the car is the dealer the only place to do it? I worry about the durabiliy of the car's engine and transmission etc... I want to hear more from those who owns/owned 300zx about the car before I am gonna buy it.
LEmme know if you can. my email is snelj11@hotmail.com
thanks.
I have a 1991 300zx tt I have owned this car for nearly three years so far I have had to replace the brake pads, rear mufflers, battery, the powersteering unit It also had cooling problems as well. Lucky I recieved a 3 year unlimited Km warranty when I purchased it about three years ago.
If I had Known that these things would go wrong with the car when I brought it, would I still have perchased it?
Awnser... Oh yeah baby.
With every car you buy you will need to spend money, so get over it, this has got to be the best sports car I have ever owned, I would not trade it for anything it has everything Looks, Speed, comfort, the people at Nissan have done them self Proud. If you haven't got one then what are you waiting for. I do recommend the 1991 TT 300zx with a slick top roof.
What I also recommend is as soon as possable do away with the factory wheels and put some nice mags on it, I have ferrari replicas Bridgestone 225/40/18 on the front and Bridgestone 275/40/18 on the rear. Adds to the looks of the car, but mainly the superiour handling achived buy doing this is nessacery for the sheer power of the car.
Make sure you have someone check the car inside out go for low mileage and enjoy.
Sorry, but ALL slick-tops are N/A (aside from one that has been swapped with a TT). ALL TT models came with T-tops.
The 300ZX is a great all round sports car.
The acceleration, looks and handling of the car are awesome considering the cost of the vehicle now.
The only disadvantages of owning one that I can think of are the labour costs for repairs/upgrades and the amount of fuel it uses in city traffic, other than that I can't complain!
(BTW, the 1991 300ZX TT models do come out in Slick-Top... I own one!)
All guys that Own A ZED should Take a Auto-Mechanic course then you will save Big Bucks in the long Run I guarantee it... Say good bye to Labour Costs...
