1990 Nissan 300ZX 2 seater twin Turbo review from North America
"Best Grand Touring car ever built"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Normal wear and tear: clutch hydraulic line slow leak, power steering line slow leak, both happened on minus 35 C days (I have lived in the arctic for a year now) That is all.
After 240 000km still has original turbos, springs, shocks, engine, transmission. I estimate suspension and turbos will have to be done in about 50 000 kms.
General comments?
Zero to 100km/h in 5 seconds. zero body roll. no squeaks or rattles. super stiff and flex free chassis, sharp steering. Suspension very compliant and comfortable in both modes, despite being stiff. No turbo lag. 2 seater looks better than almost anything on the road. T-top, glass roof. Fantastic seats. easy, not expensive to upgrade, mine has about 375 hp and about 280 - 290 km/h top speed. No other car feels better. I will NEVER sell, perhaps buy an NSX one day as a second car. I loved my 944 turbo, but 300ZX TT is better is every way - stiffer chassis, much faster - especially low end, more comfortable, better built, magic handling. If Porsche continued with a 944/968 it would eventually end up like this. You can drive this car around a high speed bend very, very fast and it requires no corrections, doesn't roll, you exit thinking " I could have gone faster". Credit rock solid structure, multilink suspension and 4 wheel steering HICAS. At full throttle I get wheelspin in first 3 gears.
The only car that comes close is NSX, but because of NSX high price- new or used- I would not put it in the same category.
