1985 Nissan 720 Pickup King Cab review from North America

"This truck will never die!"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

- Starter.

- 2 sets of brakes.

- Clutch.

- Bad defroster.

- Bad fuel gage.

- Bad ball joints and bearings on front end of frame.

General comments?

UNBELIEVABLY RELIABLE! This truck has been beaten and bruised, but refuses to quit! Has been well taken care of... all scheduled maintenance taken care of (oil every 3,000 even though the manual recommends 7,500!). Pulls just as strong as ever, never stutters or falters.

Had it hit 103mph on the 73 down to San Diego! Can cruise at 80+mph forever without worrying about anything coming apart.

1/2 ton rated truck carried 3,000lbs brick in the bed riding the axles and and pulled like a champ!

Has never been back to a Nissan dealer since it was driven off the lot in '85 by my dad. King cab is great for carrying just whatever, but isn't so great for people. Front buckets are more than comfortable.

5-speed gearbox is still tight and never slips.

No A/C, power steering, tach, oil gauge, or power anything. Less things that can go wrong, right??

I will NEVER EVER sell this truck. I'm getting an E46 M3 after graduating college, but I will still keep this truck and drive it a majority of the time. Came new with 99 bhp... and is probably <70 now, but has loads of torque. Drove it to Maine and back from California without a problem. I don't know if I trust Nissan's today, but this truck is possibly the best 4cyl engine ever produced! I only wish it was a 4x4!

Operating costs-

Registration - $66 (yr)

Insurance - $400 (6mo)

Gas - 22 city/25 high @ 12.5gal tank

Maintenance - $0+oil changes.

Hope to see 300k and beyond!! I recommend watching the Top Gear episode on "killing a Toyota" on youtube. Can't be done!
