2003 Nissan Altima SL review from North America
"Great car, just take care of it!"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
This is a very nice car.
First when I got it, I just made the regular maintenance (since it has a lot of miles). The car needed new brake pads, plus I installed new spark plugs, oil change and air filter.
Oh, and it's really easy to work on this car!! And after I did all these, the car never gave me any problems.
But one day I got the check engine light on, so I went to AutoZone and got it checked. They told me it was the catalytic converter, so I went home and I started searching on the web, and found the problem with the catalytic converter and oil consumption. Then I got worried as I thought I would have to buy a new engine.
But what I did is what everybody should do, I went to eBay and got new exhaust header (without the catalytic converter) to replace the old exhaust manifold (which has the faulty catalytic converter). I also needed a set of spark plug fouler (from AutoZone like $3) to install the sensor that is supposed to go in the cat (if you don't use the fouler your service light will be on).
So I installed everything myself, and after I installed it, the service light went off, and I never had a problem with this nice car again.
It runs great. I already put 20k miles on it since I did all these things, so try this before you blow your engine. I spent only about $250 and it saved me a new engine!!! If you need any help, contact me at tuanis@live.com
General comments?
I love the car is good looking, very roomy, good on gas - about 28mpg highway, nice CD player with CD changer... I have no complaints...
Just remember, all cars needs good care. If you do the oil changes on time and all the regular maintenance, your car will be always be good to you!!!
But if you are the kind of person that thinks the cars should not wear, and you make a big deal about a blown bulb and stupid things like that, you'll never find a good car.
Just take good care of your car all the time, don't wait till it's broken...
