2003 Nissan Altima SE review from North America
"The worst car I have ever and will ever own."
What things have gone wrong with the car?
I was pleased the car due to the increase in power and speed. I purchased it used from an Infiniti dealership in CA and that in and of itself was an ordeal. Just as side note, this dealer provided an immense amount of false information; both online, posted on the car window, and from the salesman himself. I was informed as to the many additional features and options offered on the car. Upon closer inspection over 50% of those options were not on the vehicle. SO BE CAREFUL, there is fine print on everything indicating the information may be incorrect and that it up to the buyer to cross check all of the options! I was extremely lucky that I made the decision to purchase the extended warranty offered through Nissan because since then the car has been nothing but trouble. From a cracked radiator, to a rattle that I have paid the dealership to get rid of and still have, to never ending back pain, I HAVE NEVER BEEN SO LET DOWN AND IRATE WITH A PURCHASE. The main issue I have with this car is the similar to the other individual who wrote a review, and that is the oil consumption. The car is currently consuming a quart of oil every 1000 miles. Nissan is well aware of this short-coming and as a result created a spec of one quart/900 miles, well below industry standards, in attempt to not have to replace the engines of many an Altima they have produced. To put this in perspective, my old car was a 2 door, hatchback Hyundai Accent that I brutalized during my college years, and I wish I never traded it in. I will never purchase another Nissan and cannot wait until the day I can get rid of this thing, if anyone will actually take it.
Quick Summary:
Engine consumes oil at a rate greater than one quart/1100 miles. Nissan only supports an oil consumption of 1 quart/900 miles.
Seat does not support lower lumbar and I have had back problems, literally from the first month of owning the car (I am 26 and have never had back problems before).
Rattle when operating a low RP-M's. The dealer cannot find the source and, although they have been paid, it has never been fixed.
Cracked radiator as a result of manufacturer defect within first month of purchase.
General comments?
The car gas accelerates well and the manual transmission only kicks it up a notch.
