2000 Nissan Frontier Desert Runner XE review from North America

"A truck for people who like to drive"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

No major problems to date, save a few fender benders.

General comments?

I love this truck. The Desert Runner has the handling of a car, with the utility of a truck.

I added a roll-bar and safari bar with some lights. In all I added 6 more lights, which not only looks nice, but also helps when off road at night. I also put on some larger tires.

I gave a 9 for performance because I have yet to find a truck that handles better. However, the engine is about average.

As for comfort, The front bucket seats are nice. I am 6-2 and I have more than enough room. I gave it an 8 because the back seats are to small. I can fit one friend uncomfortably in the back. With one person the leg room is fine, however there isn't enough shoulder room. If it was extended 2 more inches that would be a big improvement.

I gave an 8 for dealer because our local Nissan dealership has a pretty poor service in the parts department.

I gave a 9 for the running costs because it is about the same (if not a bit better) than trucks in the same class.

I regularly take it to the back of our property and out on friends property. The skid plates and moderate clearance comes in handy with large rocks and cactus. The Desert Runner has more capabilities than the normal 2x4 model, but is still limited since it is 2 wheel drive.

Like I previously mentioned. This truck has good handling (dare I say exceptional) The sway bar, and low center of gravity allows this truck to handle like a car around back-road corners.
