1989 Nissan Maxima GSE 3.0 from North America

Summary:

The best money I have ever spent.

Faults:

The Bose system stopped working.

The CV joints went out at 222000 miles.

Transmission went with CV joints.

General Comments:

I only paid $1500.00 for the car and though I have had to put another $2800.00 into it in the last two years it is well worth it to me.

It's really fast and quick on take offs.

Could be a little better on gas mileage.

Handles well and runs like a dream.

I LOVE this car.

1989 Nissan Maxima GXE V6 from North America

Summary:

Great car is well maintained

Faults:

Front, Back brakes went. New Calipers, and rotors.

New radiator and water pump.

New battery.

New timing belt.

Engine valves are bent, needs new engine.

Speedometer only works when it wants to.

New ignition coil.

(All since I bought it)

General Comments:

This car was great when I bought it, or I thought it was. but yeah. the car has caused me nothing, but problems and draining my account. When the car did work at its somewhat potential is was a car with great speed and power I must say. I am planning on buying another the same year with a good engine and if I need parts, I have my other.

1989 Nissan Maxima LX 3.0 from North America

Summary:

Great car for a beginner or a seasoned driver

Faults:

Automatic transmission went out at 198,000.

Heater doesn't work well.

Struts froze.

General Comments:

I bought my first 89 Maxima for 1800.00 shortly after I bought it the transmission failed, I found that parts for the Maxima were quite costly, but the car is simply the most comfortable and reliable vehicle I have owned.

Take note that with the automatic transmission the car comes out of the factory with no transmission filter, aftermarket filters are available.

This car is verry fast for its size.

Does great in the snow and ice!

1989 Nissan Maxima GXE V6 from North America

Summary:

A true four door sports car with luxury and room to grow

Faults:

Windows now all broken.

Transmission has been slipping since day one.

General Comments:

This car is still running great! This is the most reliable car I have ever owned. The way I understand it though, there are problems with the transmission and windows on these models. There have been very few problems other than that. I have driven this vehicle from Maine to Michigan to Norfolk, VA in two days with no worries other than other drivers. Thanks Nissan.

1989 Nissan Maxima GXE 3.0 V6 from North America

Summary:

One sharp and smooth ride

Faults:

The digital speedometer and tachometer have gone out at 96,000 miles. The speedometer on the windshield remained in work order. The problem turn out to be a modulator. The overdrive is beginning to slip.

General Comments:

The all leather fully adjustable seats are seriously comfortable. The Bose stereo rocks! Truly a listening enjoyment for those who like deep rich sound. The body line is ahead of it's time, but is still a classic. With four doors and a roomy trunk, you have lots of room for guess or gear. I would recommend this car to anyone who loves power and luxury all in one.

I am planning to purchase this year and type of vehicle and am trying to find out all I can. It may be due to the limitations of the structure of your review, but when I read "I would recommend this car to anyone who loves power and luxury all in one." which is a positive comment and then see that you would not purchase this type of car again, which I usually take to be a negative comment and notice that you chose a "unhappy or angry face icon" to express your emotions regarding this car, I am at a loss to make a solid interpretation. Can you clear this up for me?

I agree with JAN. 2004. I was considering buying this model car. Your review sends out mixed emotions.

1989 Nissan Maxima GXE 3.0 SOHC V6 from North America

Summary:

One hell of a car

Faults:

My transmission went (twice) since I bought the car. Though much of this is due to me being an over aggressive teenage driver.

The only thing to go since was the master cylinder somewhere around 155k.

General Comments:

This is an awesome car. It's seriously quick and the handling is superb. Theres a lot to say for a car that still rides smooth, starts instantly, and drives with no squeaks at 160 thousand. This car has never let me down (discounting the 2 tranny's) and has never needed anything, but normal maintenance (tires, brakes, spark plugs, struts. Inside every light, gage, window, and switch still works. Even the A\C still blows cold without any recharging. Nissan did an amazing job designing this car. The body is starting to become a problem due to the new england winters, but still manages to look decent. I recommend this car to anybody since it'll keep up with sports cars, carry 5 people and gear, and still start every morning.
