Ignition coil problem:
Step (1) After reading what people said on this site, took the car to AUTOZONE
Step (2) Autozone said there was a misfire on #4, If you don't know cyl. 1, 3, 5 are in the back & cyl. 2, 4, 6 are in the front.
Cyl. 4 therefore is the front center one...
Step (3) Bought the ignition coil from Autozone or wherever you want to go.
Step (3) You need the hex key tool to open the 3.0 aluminum cover (4 screws).
Step (4) Once removed, disconnect the harness, which is the electrical wires going into the coil.
Step (5) Remove the coil & replace.
Step (6) Replace cover.
These were the instruction I found online! These people on here are super smart! SO PLEASE DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR TO THE DEALER, YOU CAN DO IT YOURSELF! AND SAVE MONEY...
Hey, I did not even have the hex key toolset - this is how handicapped I am - bought the hex tool kit with rachet set for 15.99... The coil was $72 from Autozone.
Autozone said they could not reset the codes for the Engine LIght to go off so I found online that if you disconnect the + wire from the battery for 5 min or so the light will go off - THIS WORKED...
So the car is running fine now!
Thanks to everyone one here posting! Anyone know how to change the brakes on the 2000 Nissan Maxima?
Guys & ladies, do it yourself! Replacing 1 ignition coil took me literally less than 5 minutes, but people are correct because it was the front one - the rear ones are harder to get to!
No you don't need to replace them all!! Don't take the bait!

Hi im having lots of issues with this vehicle... I have a 2000 max se with sunroof/leather seats/ spoiler, but not gxe/gle... anyways the car has been shaking lately and yesturday it wouldn't crank at all... anyways I have changed the oil put new filter for the oil, changed all the spark plugs, put new filter under the hood so the car car can breathe, gas treatment, premium gas, 1 broken coil, ses light goes on and off, and put car on machine for diagnostics test. at this time my power pressure hose has a leak, need 2 more coils, engine wire harness, and fuel injection wire harness. I have paid hundreds of dollars and looks like I have hundreds to go. anyways I just wanted to hats off to you for saying don't go to a dealer, do it your self it's 10 times cheaper. don't get intimidated by the complicity of how it looks under the hood. when my car didn't crank I told my husband and my neighbor and they got under there and figured it out on their own. don't let the nissan dealership beat you out your money like I did and lots of others... find help else where. nissan is in it for the money and not for your best interest for the car.
When I have my car scanned it says misfire (but it doesn't tell me what cylinder). Sometimes when I scan it, it says ignition failure or something. One time I scanned it and it told me misfire on cylinder 2, so I switched coil 2 and 6 to see if I would get misfire on 6, but I haven't got it to tell me cylinder 6, just reading ignition failure or something. I think I am going to try switching out the coil on 2. Annoying!!! Any comments or suggestions Thedrwagner1@yahoo.com.
As to changing the brakes on '00 Maxima. The cylinders, unlike most American and domestics I've changed, they have to be turned in as opposed to pushed in on the back wheels. And the fronts can be pushed back with a $7 tool from Advanced Auto or whoever!
