1992 Nissan Maxima GXE review from North America
"Everything you want it to do, it does it. and more"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Air conditioning display, got a new one from junkyard
speedometer, again, replaced form junkyard
ABS system
transmission replaced at 250000 kms
control arms, tie rods of both front wheels have gone multiple times, although probably I'm to blame for those.
Nothing else, surprisingly for a car of this age and so much use.
General comments?
It truly has been a fine example of reliability, performance, comfort and everything else that you normally expect from a car.
Since my ownership at 170K, absolutely nothing has gone wrong, ever, with the engine. regular oil changes were the only thing.
I use this car for pizza delivery for 4 years now, and that in an area filled with speedbumps, potholes, train (streetcar / tram) tracks. that's why I had to change the control arms and the tie rods of the front wheels.
I have taken this car on 12+ hours trips multiple times, never gave a hiccup, never failed to start. I drove continuously for 5 hours, never heated. I have taken it to track, performed damn well, almost had me believe it's a sports car with some softer suspensions.
Its roomy for everyone, utterly comfortable, joyous to drive and that V6 engine is a bulletproof fun machine.
Only gripe is that the fuel efficiency is a tad bit lower that average.
I'm keeping it till it runs to ground. or may be the next major failure.
Get a maxima (pre-2004, made in japan), its worth it.
