I have a 2005 Maxima SE with 69500 miles. I have been reading everyone's complaints about their transmissions and mine is doing the same thing too. When it gets warm, my transmission seems to slip, and when downshifting, it thumps and jerks. It only seems to have the problems in the lower gears.
I decided to go online and research this problem, and this is unreal about this transmission. I didn't think I was going to find this out, I thought it was just mine doing this. They need to recall it! Powertrain warranty only covers up to 60000.
Also my A/C started acting up when I only had 35000 miles.
The car has been a good car except for the transmissions is not wanting to go into 2nd and 3rd gear. Then when it does it jerks really hard, which is now messing up the motor mounts. There are many people with this issue. I made a complaint with safetycar, which is with the NHTSA. The more complaints they get, they will investigate it and hopefully a recall will be issued. Here is the web site http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ Please make a complaint as this issue needs to be resolved. We spend too much money for it not to be.
Here is another web site you can write to as well http://www.consumeraffairs.com/automotive/nissan_maxima.html. The only way to fix this is to work together.
