I have owned my 2000 nissan maxima SE for almost 3 years. The first 2 years it ran fine. The last year has been terrible.
The service engine light went on and I had a terrible spark knock all the time. I took it in to the dealer to get the sparkplugs changed and they told me the engine light stated the "air mass flow" was bad and that would cost about $200 to replace.
Well it already costed me $175 to change 6 plugs. In the mean time my gas pedal started sticking right after I got the plugs changed. I brought the car back there to have the air mass flow meter changed and told them about the gas pedal. It only started this after they worked on my car.
Anyway, they replaced the flow meter and my engine light came back on the next day. I took it back again and now it's an 02 sensor another $200 that I can't afford so I've been driving it like that.
One more thing I brought the car to Autozone. They checked it on that machine for me for free. They told me what codes came up. Thanks for a little help. Nissan is all about making money. If I ever get this car running good it is getting sold and I will never buy another nissan again!!!
You are absolutely right. Its not worth to go to the Dealer at all.
I also agree. Never rely on the Dealers who's technical troubleshooting skills rely totally upon puttting the car on scanners rather than using some knowledge and experience. These Nissan Maximas are full of Sensors that give never ending problems. Trying more than 1 garage for your complicated problem would be prudent.
I just recently bought a 2000 maxima
soon after my service engine light came on
my mechanic told me its the mass air flow
sensor, the part is expensive about $230.00
Its very easy to install though. I also changed
the spark plugs air filter and did an oil change.
This is my first Nissan I've been faithful to
Acura and Toyota. I thought it might be time for
a change I hope I don't regret it.
This site is very helpful.
I have a 2000 Nissan Maxima. The service engine light came on, and I have had it scanned and it says misfire or ignition problem. I can't figure out what it is; coil, injector fuel pressure problem? Such a pain; I'd fix it if I could figure out what it was. Has anyone had something like that happen?? Write back or email Thedrwagner1@yahoo1.com.
