1996 Nissan Maxima SE 5 speed review from North America
"Very reliable, stealthy fast car"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Starter had to be replaced at 80,000 miles.
Two O2 sensors have been replaced.
The computer module blew up and had to be replaced (the only time this car has stranded me).
Clutch master cylinder was replaced at 155,000 miles.
General comments?
This car is still extremely fun to drive and keeps up with almost all of the new family sedans.
The engine has burned zero oil in all of the time I have owned it, and the oil still stays very clean (using synthetic oil).
The styling may not be the prettiest, but it looks good to me and the car is not a cop magnet: more of a stealth-mobile.
I have averaged about 25 mpg over more than 100,000 miles: very good performance/economy ratio I think.
The leather seats have held up very well, still in great condition.
